During this COVID-19 pandemic, Social Distancing is tough. My girls are really missing their family, cousins and their friends lately (me too!). It’s definitely harder to work, juggle both girls daily activities, and remember to eat during the day. The weather in Southern Indiana has been reasonable lately and we have found ourselves outside most days!
I’ve put together a list of Outdoor Activities that will keep your kids entertained and fun enough to enjoy some quality time together!
1. Sandbox’s & Watertables
If you’re able to work from home during this social distancing, take your laptop outside while your kids play in the sandbox or sandpit! This ALWAYS works for me when I really need to sit and get something done. Our sandbox keeps my girls entertained for a full hour… sometimes even longer.
2. Chalk Art
We love chalk! My oldest, Emma, recently learned how to do hop-scotch so I have to draw that out every other day for her. We practice our letters, numbers, and spelling on the driveway and sidewalk. We have drawing competitions and finish it off with a game of ticktacktoe
3. Neighborhood Walks
Every day it hasn’t rained since it was announced to “stay home”, we have walked around the neighborhood! My neighborhood facebook page came together and had the cute idea to put a stuffed animal in the window– then when you walk around the neighborhood, the kids can point out how many they see as you pass each house! I love that idea because my girls get so into it!
4. Let Them Help With The Landscaping
Kids love “helping”! You can order some seeds or live flowers from amazon and plant them together as a family! Emma and Evvie each have their own watering can and they think they are really helping out by watering the plants.
5. Scavenger Hunt
I made a kid-friendly scavenger hunt with things I knew would be around the neighborhood. We had so much doing this and the girls took turns taking photos of each item on their mini cameras that they got for Christmas!
6. Bonfire
Who doesn’t like a s’mores night?! We have a fire pit in our back yard and we love putting on a fire and making s’mores. And by making s’mores, I mean that the girls just eat the entire Hershey’s bars before the marshmallows actually melt…
7. Have a picnic
Being outside just makes you happier. I stand behind that. We love taking our meals outside! Plus it gives me a good excuse to use my cute vintage picnic basket I found a few years ago!
8. Arts & Crafts
If you have any extra canvases laying around the house, or anything to paint really, You can do it outside in the grass somewhere! You don’t have to worry about any huge messes and they can paint to their hearts desire. Coloring books and playdoh are great for outdoors too!
9. Toys Outside
Currently, my daughters are BIG barbie fans, so I took their Barbie dream house outside and filled all of the Barbie swimming pools up and out of all of these options, this had to be what they loved most (eye roll). But if they are entertained and having fun, then that’s all that matters!
10. Bike Ride
If you have a kids bike attachment for the back of an adult bike, take them for a ride! (hello workout) All kids love bike rides (ok, well, mine do). I wish someone would just pull me around so that I can just sit back and not do all of the peddling.
11. Water Activities
If it’s warm enough in your area, open up that pool or whip out the sprinkler and let them go wild. My girls L O V E any excuse to put their bathing suit on.
