This room in general has been a labor of love. It started out as a craft room for me when we built the house in 2015. After having Evvie, it became Emma’s toddler bedroom, before moving her into a shared room with Evvie (as requested)– and finally back to Emma’s own bedroom. She LOVES it and got to be involved in the whole design process from picking out the bed to the color on the wall. I wanted to give her a cozy space to draw or read and I we nailed it! It’s definitely my favorite room in the house.
The centered window needed built-in’s on each side. It just needed to happen. I am obsessed with them because they gave an entire different look to the room, they hold all of the kids room decor tchotchke’s, yet provide practical storage for toys and other 6 year old things.
Emma helped pick out some of the shelf decor. She re-organizes them a couple times a month and it makes my heart so happy. I love styling shelves with books we actually read, lamps, art, and plants.
I love adding trim feature walls. They are such an easy install and give any room an elevated and timeless look. I used this wood casing for the trim box’s on the wall.
The boucle storage bench is a catch all for any toys that make it upstairs from their play area. It’s such a cute and practical addition in here.
The carpet in the bedrooms is something I have been wanting to get rid of for many moons since moving in. We recently had our main level flooring (excluding the bedrooms) replaced to this Brookside Oak Laminate. I did a series of tests (out of 14 flooring samples to be exact) testing out my small list of requirements before choosing the right flooring– scratch resistant, color, & durability. We absolutely LOVE these flooring and I knew I wanted to install the bedrooms myself, so I did just that.
Emma was so excited for her canopy bed! We originally had it on the right side of the room, but it felt too choppy so we centered it between the two bookshelves. I have two box springs stacked on top of each other to make the mattress appear higher– which is a perfect height for her full sized comforter!
Emma loves her floor length mirror! She loves to try on clothes and do her hair in front of it. I filled up the surrounding space with a cute olive tree and the cutest vintage wicker hamper I found at an antique store!
Rugs are one of my favorite elements to add in a room. I especially love Turkish rugs! I found this adorable and unique antique rug on Etsy and the muted colors are absolutely perfect with the rest of the textures throughout the room.
I’m so excited to finally share the finished result! It is definitely my new favorite room to be in and I’m so happy Emma absolutely adores her new space!
